As I was getting ready to teach my preschool lesson on food and nutrition, Maia wanders over and I start asking her to name some favorite foods: Me: “Maia, what food do you like to eat?” maia: “Nothing. I don’t like ANY food to eat.” (an all to common answer to any query lately) M: [...] J: Maia, what are we going to do today? [we are going to a Gemini Crickets play group Easter egg hunt party] M: We’re going to a party! J: Yeah, what kind of a party? M: A party with booooysss! J: [shuddering] A what? M: A party with boys. ohh, and girls, too. Little did [...] Overhead this morning: M: Daddy, I was walking and walking and walking and walking and walking and walking and walking to find you this morning. J: And, where did you find me? M: Your bedroom. ————————————————————— M, handing the phone to Valerie, who’s still in bed: Mommy, your phone is on the floor all the [...] M: Daddy, what’s your middle name? J: Michael. What’s your middle name? M: Prisoner! J: Prisoner? Prisoner of what? M: Prisoner Princess. I just have to stay here and help clean up. Well, yes, we are doing a general cleaning, but, I haven’t exactly made her do anything other than stay out of the way [...] Maia has a way of observing the world that gives me pause to remember that we just can’t take life too seriously. Driving back from the pumpkin patch last Friday, Maia was looking out the window and observing what the setting sun was leaving behind on the horizon. It was not unlike below, but not [...] Maia’s third Halloween has come and gone. Grandma Becky made a truly beautiful princess dress for her (thank you!). Valerie carved up the pumpkins and set them out to invite fellow trick-r-treaters to pay a visit and take some goodies away. Maia professed that “it’s the pumpkins’ birthday today” once the candles were placed inside. [...] I had to dash into our local Target this morning and had the girls in tow. Maia was riding in the main basket checking out the wares on display. As we passed the first of the Christmas decorations I heard from the front of the cart, in true Maia style, “Christmas time?? It’s not Christmas [...] Maia climbed up into her chair for dinner and she’s sitting on her knees and her bum is just wiggling back and forth. Valerie observes this and says, “Maia, I think you need to go potty before dinner”. M: No I don’t. V: Yes you do. And she hoists up Maia from the chair and [...] I made pancakes for dinner last night, always a crowd pleaser on a Friday night. Well, almost always. Sitting at the dinner table Maia and Elise were enjoying the bounty but Stella was refusing to eat them. What? I wondered out loud where Stella had come from…my daughter not eating pancakes? After looking at her, [...] This evening, Valerie was promising gooey chocolate cakes to the twins for their birthday. Maia comes trotting in about that time: M: Gooooooeeeeeeeeey chocolate cake? V: Yes. What kinda of cake did you have for your birthday? M: ORANGE cake!! V: And, who made it? M: Kathleen! She turns and points at me. M: And, [...] |
